Timber importer and distributor, James Latham, has helped award winning garden designer Tom Stuart Smith take the gold medal as well as the prestigious Best Show Garden title at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.
The garden, which is sponsored by the Daily Telegraph, incorporates weathered sustainable FSC certified oak boarding, supplied by Lathams, which adds an earth-derived character to the scheme inspired by a Norfolk beach scene, and Lathams’ involvement in the award winning garden has earned a mention in the Daily Telegraph Chelsea Flower Show supplement.
The garden has a minimal, asymmetric design with materials, surfaces and planting of rich patina and texture. It is enclosed on two sides by alternating sections of hornbeam hedge and pre-rusted steel wall which provides the contrast between permanence and transience.
Lathams has also provided materials for another garden at the show, this time in the ‘Chic’ category. The garden, which has been created by Jo Penn and sponsored by the Mitie Group, has been designed to reflect the phenomenon of global warming and is a low maintenance city garden designed with sustainability and modern living in mind. Lathams has provided FSC birch plywood to create the structure around which the garden will be created.
James Latham has the most comprehensive range of wood based panel products and timber in the UK, all of which are purchased in accordance with the company’s strict environmental purchasing policy.
Wherever possible, Lathams buys material certified to one of the recognized schemes such as the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
Lathams continues to add to its extensive range of panel products and high quality hardwoods, softwoods and timber flooring products. For further information or to receive a brochure or product guide, please contact the marketing department on 0116 257 3415 or email marketing@lathams.co.uk.
