Announcment of New Environmental Softwood Product

StellacwoodJames Latham is pleased to be able to offer a new, environmentally friendly product, Stellac Wood, which is perfect for a wide range of applications, including window frames.

This hardened and heat-treated product is made exclusively by Stellac Oy of Finland and exclusively distributed by James Latham.  Once the wood has been treated it absorbs less water, meaning that there is a reduction in any shrinkage or swelling and also gives the timber increased resistance to extreme weather, moulds and insects, so it is ideal for exterior use.

Stellac Wood's increased surface hardness also means that it is durable, so it is also suitable for floors, doors, indoor and garden furniture and sheds.  It can even be used to construct bridges and in projects where the structure may come into contact with soil.

John May, Timber Director at James Latham says: "Stellac Wood provides an environmentally friendly softwood product that is suitable for many applications, and the treated wood means it has a significantly longer life.  Of course, another advantage is that is has PEFC accreditation."

He adds, "It is a fantastic product - in tests, Stellac Wood showed little or no deterioration when exposed to various moulds, whereas an untreated sample showed almost total decay."

The treatment of the wood uses no harmful substances and the wood used is derived from PEFC certified products.

Stellac Wood is available from James Latham's Dudley, Ossett, Purfleet, Wigston and Yate depots.  For further information, please contact the marketing department on 0116 257 3415 or email marketing@lathams.co.uk.
