The UK’s leading timber and panel products distributor, James Latham, was summonsed recently – to supply materials for the refurbishment of a magistrates’ court.
Bastion Security Installations Ltd approached Latham’s Gateshead depot for supplies of Prime European Oak. The job required the use of FSC accredited timber, so Bastion turned to Lathams; a company that is renowned for its environmental policies and its wide range of legally verified timber.
Bastion required 4m³ of rough sawn stock and 10m³ of various machined sections in European Oak. The Oak was used in the manufacture of magistrates’ benches, the clerks’ desks and decorative paneling to desk fronts and walls. European Oak is straight grained and moderately durable, and this prime quality timber is increasingly popular with interior designers and shopfitters.
Geoff Hall, depot manager at Gateshead, commented: "We were delighted to assist Bastion with the refurbishment of the magistrates’ court. European Oak is a high quality timber which is perfect for interior joinery and furniture, and the fact that FSC certification was required demonstrates that there is a growing demand for responsibly sourced wood."
