Lathams Takes to the Water

The UK’s leading timber and panel product distributor, James Latham, has made another voyage into shipbuilding – this time by supplying materials for the interior of a longboat.
Kendall Narrowboats, based in Speke, Merseyside, and has been established for three years and manufactures boats to customers’ own designs and specifications. Sales representative, John Brookes, from Latham’s Ossett depot, visits the company regularly, and was pleased to be able to provide materials for Kendall’s latest project.
For the 55ft narrowboat, Lathams supplied Kendall with oak veneered ply: 16 sheets in 9mm, 12 sheets in 6mm and 8 sheets in 4mm, as well as 25 sheets of oak veneered mdf. The timber was used for the linings, bulkheads, galley carcasses and cabinet doors. The boat also required a sheet of the solid surface product, LG HI-MACS, in Merapi from the Volcanics range which was used for the vanity unit top and galley worktop.
John commented: "I often visit Kendall Narrowboats and was only too happy to supply the plywood, mdf and LG HI-MACS needed for this boat. They often call on us for supplies of timber and natural acrylic stone, and the use of the materials in this way highlights the versatility of Lathams products."
