James Latham, the UK’s leading Timber and Panel products distributor, has recently announced that its Ossett depot, West Yorkshire, is now to control the national distribution of LG HI-MACS.
By 2007 sales of the product had grown by such an extent that each James Latham branch found it considerably more demanding to stock the growing range and servicing an increasing customer base, therefore a commitment was made to invest in specialised racking at the Osset site. The depot now stocks the entire LG HI-MACS portfolio which exceeds 200 product lines.
Steve Robinson, LG HI-MACS Product Manager, commented: “Ossett has consistently sold the largest volume of any of the branch networks so it made sense to consolidate the distribution to this depot. We felt it was important that customers still had contact with their local branch and sales people so orders are still placed at any branch, but are now sent via the group computer system to Ossett, from where we distribute to anywhere in the country within four days of receipt of order.”
Due to individual customer needs, the James Latham branches still hold stock of products tailored to individual customer requirements.
Steve concluded: “I manage the stock and place weekly orders with LG’s European Warehouse to ensure stock availability. Improvements in the purchasing and the supply chain have helped us offer a competitive product and now that we have the central distribution operation at Ossett, it has created significant improvements in both order fulfillment and customer services.”
