Driving Force at ATP

For the launch of the new Volkswagen Scirocco, designer Ben Wilson was commissioned by Scirocco Studios to create a modular object inspired by the car.

The units used to produce the final piece were made from white Multiwall supplied by Advanced Technical Panels (ATP). Part of the James Latham Group, ATP is the UK’s leading custom-built panel distributor supplying a comprehensive range of pre-finished and overlaid panels.

Ben Wilson, Designer, said: "The initial idea was to create usable modular objects that could be linked together to make a larger unit - similar to 3D Tetris. The four units on castors look uncomplicated on their own but can be adapted into different practical shapes and offered storage, seating and a tabletop area - key functional objects at the launch of the new car."

"Each unit looks similar to how a kid would draw a car, and the way they open up subtly reflects the way cars open - the bonnet, the doors and the boot."

David Briggs, ATP Sales Manager, said: "Ben’s designs are fantastic so we knew he’d create something really impressive for Volkswagon and it goes to show that our products are extremely versatile."
