Sponsored Sustainable Show is a Great Success

Homes for Good 2006 The third annual Homes for Good Exhibition, co-sponsored by leading timber and panel product distributor James Latham (17-19 February), was a roaring success with some great feedback from visitors who want an even bigger event next year.

Organised by the Somerset Trust for Sustainable Development, the non-profit show was held at the Somerset College of Arts and Technology in Taunton. The aim was to show how buildings can be designed, built, decorated and furnished in a sustainable way.

The exhibition is geared to help smaller businesses get a foot-hold in the developing market, revealing to a wider audience a new way of caring for their home, health and the environment.  James Latham has become a major co-sponsor of the show, due to its on-going commitment to the issue of sustainability and purchasing timber from well-managed forests.

Corina Reay, Homes for Good Coordinator at the Somerset Trust for Sustainable Development, commented, “This year’s show was a huge success with some very positive comments from visitors who felt that they had learnt a lot from this unique networking opportunity.  The continued popularity of the Homes for Good Exhibition highlights the fact that there is a huge demand for a more sustainable approach to the way we build and furnish our homes, schools and offices.  We are delighted with Latham’s support at this year’s event - it’s great that such a big player in this industry takes the environment issue seriously.  By achieving their FSC and PEFC status, Lathams are helping to ensure that the world’s forests will continue to flourish.”

An array of information was on hand for both construction professionals and home owners, including free seminars, demonstrations and energy efficiency advice. In addition, James Latham held a series of seminars on sustainable timber resourcing.

Group panel products director Chris Sutton commented, “We are very proud to support this show and feel strongly about environmental accountability which we have proven with our achievements of both FSC and PEFC status.

“There is a growing interest in this area as people are getting increasingly aware of the impact they have on the environment both locally and globally, and we had some very good feedback from visitors who felt that they had learnt a lot at this year’s event.”

Homes for Good was also sponsored by Ecology Building Society, J.A. Clark Trust and Somerset County Council, and is endorsed by Kevin McCloud, presenter of Channel 4’s ‘Grand Designs’ and BBC’s ‘Queen of Green’ Penny Poyzer.
